OBJECTIVE: To determine the visual status of commercial motorcycle riders in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, and its association with road traffic crashes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional, population based study done in September, 2010. Using a multi-staged random sampling technique, 500 commercial motorcycle riders were studied from 11 selected units out of the 44 units of registered commercial motorcyclists which were used as the sampling frame. Questionnaires were administered by face to face interview. Visual acuity measurement, external eye examination, anterior and posterior segment examination as well as ocular motility tests were done. Also, visual field, colour vision and stereopsis were assessed. The data obtained were analyzed using EPI-INFO Version 3.5.1. The results were presented using frequency tables and charts. The association between variables were evaluated using cross tabulation, chi square, univariate and multivariable analysis.
