Vesical function was studied in 61 diabetics and 44 non diabetic controls matched for age and sex with the diabetics. Compared with the controls, the diabetics have significantly reduced bladder sensibility, increased bladder capacity, increased residual urine volume and low average urine flow rate. Vesical dysfunction was more common in the poorly controlled diabetics and in the presence of peripheral neuropathy. Even though this tended to be more common with increasing duration of Diabetes mellitus, it did not reach the 5% level of significance when subjected to statistical analysis. Urinary tract infection was more common with increasing residual urine volumes. Sexual dysfunction was present in 63.4% of the male diabetics and 71.4% of the female diabetics.
