Abstract

Background: Chlamydia trachomatis infection is associated with several morbidities. The infection is treatable but over half of infected patients are asymptomatic. Laboratory diagnosis will identify asymptomatic patients and confirm the symptomatic patients. This will reduce the morbidities associatedwith the infection. Objectives: To determine the sensitivity and specificity of the Chlamydia rapid test device in detecting Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Methodology: This is a prospective study of 400 gynaecological clinic attendees. The Endocervical swab specimen was used for rapid test and blood specimen for serology test. The specificity and sensitivity of the rapid test was calculated.
