SERUM LEVELS OF PLACENTA GROWTH FACTORS (PLGF) AND SOLUBLE FMS-LIKE TYROSINE KINASE 1(sFLT1) IN PRE-ECLAMPSIA (CASE-CONTROL STUDY) AT THE LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, IKEJA
BACKGROUND: The aim was to compare the serum levels and ratio of angiogenic factor-placenta
growth factor (PLGF) and anti angiogenic factor -soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt1) in women with
pre-eclampsia and normotensive pregnant women in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
METHODS: Structured proformer was used to collect data on socio-demography, clinical characteristics
and fetomaternal outcome of pregnant pre eclamptic and normotensive women in their third trimester.
Samples were collected for assay of PLGF and sFlt-1 and analysis was done using the immunoassay
technique .Data analysis was done by Epi info 3.5.3 and SPSS version 20.0. Data was expressed as Mean
± Standard Deviation. Comparison of serum levels of the analytes between the two groups was done using
the Independent t-test and Chi-square test. Correlation was done using the Pearson’s coefficient and the risk
of adverse fetomaternal outcome was determined using the logistics regression. P-value of < 0.05 was
considered as statistically significant.
