Aim:The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between refractive error, intraocular pressure and central corneal thickness of refractive error patients attending the eye clinic of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri with a view to recommending appropriate changes in the management of refractive errors and also provide a data base for future comparison of results and interventions. Method: This is a hospital based descriptive, cross-sectional study on175 refractive error patients that attended the eye clinic at Federal Medical Centre, Owerri from July, 2013 to October, 2013who met the inclusion criteria. Purposive sampling method was used.Ocular examinations performed on all participants included their visual acuity, pen light and slit- lamp examination of the anterior and posterior segment, refraction by auto-refractor and subjective refinement, central corneal thickness using ultrasound pachymeter, intraocular pressure by applanation tonometry and optic nerve head assessment using a 78D non-contact Volk lens after dilatation of the pupils. Data was entered and analysed using SPSS version 19.0 Statistical software.
