Malaria is a major cause of childhood morbidity and mortality. Several efforts are being made to reduce its prevalence with focus on control of its risk factors and effecting prompt treatment. There have been occasioned by impressive results especially in under-fives who are at higher risk of the disease. Malaria leads to various complications and anaemia, the most common complication has been considered a proxy for malaria in children. The study aimed at determining the prevalence of malaria, its associated risk factors and anaemia as a complication in febrile children seen at a tertiary hospital in Nigeria. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 246 febrile subjects over a 5 month period. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information on socio-demographic, vector control measures and care given to the subjects. Investigations conducted included malaria microscopy, total leukocyte count and packed cell volume.
