Abstract

AIM OF STUDY: To determine the Prevalence of Low Vision and Barriers to Uptake of Low Vision Services in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State with a view to obtaining data for proper planning of low vision services and the design of suitable eye care programmes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was a population based cross-sectional study conducted between July and August, 2014. A multi-stage random sampling method with probability proportion to size was used to select 419 respondents from 6 wards in the L.G.A. The study included the administration of questionnaires to elicit basic demographic data, ocular history, barriers to uptake of low vision services and ocular examinations to determine the causes of ocular pathologies identified. Data was collected and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences software (SPSS), version 21. Chi-square was used to test the association between variables and a p-value of < 0.05 was considered as being statistically significant.
