Background:Placental malaria has long been acknowledged as a complication of malaria in pregnancy, and has been associated with poor pregnancy outcome in malaria-endemic areas. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and pregnancy outcome of placental malaria among women delivering in Makurdi, North-Central Nigeria Materials and Methods:It is a two year descriptive cross-sectional study. Placental blood and tissue samples were collected from 223 Parturient. Blood films were prepared, stained with 10% Giemsa stains and microscopically analyzed for the presence of parasites and histology slides were prepared from placental tissues and also examined for the presence of malaria parasites and pigments. Demographic characteristicswere recorded in the questionnaires. Chi-square, student t-tests and a regression model were computed to analyze risks, using SPSSversion 25.0.
