Background: Sickle Cell Anaemia(SCA) is an inherited haemoglobinopathy prevalent in most parts of the world and affecting about 1% of world population. Sufferers are at risk of several blood borne infections notably hepatitis B and C which are of public health importance. Early infections in childhood are associated with long-term disease and could lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
