Abstract

Aim: To determine the pattern of ocular morbidity among sawmill workers in Benin City and to compare ocular problems in technical and non technical (administrative) workers. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Benin City between January and May 2009 to determine the pattern of ocular disorders among sawmill workers. Five hundred and fifty three (91.9%) out of a total of six hundred and two (602) sawmill workers participated in this study. This comprised of four hundred and forty-nine (81.2%) technical and one hundred and four (18.8%) administrative sawmill workers. They were examined with visual acuity charts, pentorch, ophthalmoscope, hand-held slit lamp, pulsair tonometer and the findings were recorded in questionnaires designed for the study. The prevalence of ocular disorders in technical and non technical workers was compared using odds ratio and chi-square test.
