Abstract

PURPOSE: This study set out to determine the presentation and pattern of Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and to identify risk factors involved in patients seen at the Eye Foundation Hospital, Lagos. METHOD: The study was in two parts, the first part was a descriptive cross sectional study of patients presenting with Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) at the Eye Foundation Hospital between JanuaryDecember 2009. The second part was a case-control study where an equal number of age and sex matched control was used to identify the risk factors for RRD in the study population. A structured questionnaire was administered to all cases and controls. Visual acuity measurement and full assessment of the anterior and posterior segments were done for each case and similarly for controls. EPI-INFO Version 6.04b was used in analysing data obtained.
