Abstract

BACKGROUND: The use of combined hormonal contraceptives pills has been linked to precancerous and cancerous lesions of the cervix. Most of the available studies reveal that hormonal contraceptives were the focus of research instead of COCPs alone. The results have been inconsistent across studied population. This study is useful in counseling and follow-up of clients in our locality. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To determine if relationship exists between combined oral contraceptive pills usage and presence of abnormal cervical cytology. METHODOLOGY: The study was a cross-sectional study; the participants were grouped equally into two arms, and matched for relevant co-variables. SPSS version 20 was used to analyse data for descriptive and inferential statistics. The Chi square test of association was set at 95% CI, and level of statistical significance was p< 0.05
