Introduction: Preeclampsia is one of the commonest medical disorders in pregnancy occuring in the second half of pregnancy and clinically manifests as hypertension and proteinuria. It occurs in upto 8% of pregnancies worldwide and it’s complications accounts for about 11% of maternal mortality in Nigeria. Aim: This sudy was done to estimate the serum lipid levels in women with preeclampsia and normotensive pregnancy. Method: It was a case control study in which 116 subjects were recruited; 58 preeclamptic and 58 normotensive (control group) pregnant women at Federal Medical center, Owerri. 5mls of their venous blood was collected after an overnight fast of 8-12 hours and this was analysed for triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) using standard enzymatic methods.
