BACKGROUND Preeclampsia is a life threatening hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that globally affects women both in developed and developing countries. It is one of the most important complications of pregnancy that is associated with increased maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. OBJECTIVES The objective of the study was to evaluate androgen levels as a predictor of pregnancy outcome in preeclampsia in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo state. MATERIALS AND METHOD This was a cross-sectional analytical study carried out in the Obstetric and Gynaecology unit of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua,Edo State. Questionnaires were used to obtain the social demographic information. Urinalysis was done for each patient at booking. Maternal serum androgen levels were measured in all preeclamptic and normotensive patients recruited in the study at second, third trimester and six weeks postpartum.
