Abstract

AIM To determine the Ocular perfusion Pressure (OPP) of newly diagnosed primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) subjects and non-glaucomatous subjects attending the eye clinic of University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu and to proffer recommendations for improved eye care of these patients. METHODS The study was a cross-sectional descriptive hospital-based survey to determine the ocular perfusion pressure of newly diagnosed POAG subjects and non-glaucomatous subjects 40 years and above. A total of 120 subjects, 60 POAG subjects and 60 non-glaucomatous subjects were recruited. Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethical committee of UNTH. All subjects had an ocular examination as well as serial blood pressure (BP) and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, OPP and other study variables were calculated and all obtained data recorded in the proforma. Statistical package for social sciences software version 25 was used for data analysis. A P value of < 0.05 was used to define statistical significance at 95% confidence interval.
