BACKGROUND: Topical steroids are used routinely in the management of post-operative inflammation following cataract surgery. Ocular side effects following prolonged use of steroids have led to the need for an alternative anti-inflammatory agent following cataract surgery. AIM: Compare the efficacy of topical Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug 0.1% Nepafenac and steroid 0.1% Dexamethasone in the post-operative management inflammation following uncomplicated small incision cataract surgery. METHODOLOGY: A single masked randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out. One hundred patients who had uncomplicated cataract surgery were recruited into this study. 66 percent of the participants were males. The participants were divided into two groups of 50 each. Each group was assigned to receive 0.1%nepafenacor 0.1% dexamethasone eye drops for 56 days post operation. The primary outcome measures were anterior chamber cells and flare, intraocular pressure. The secondary outcome measures were visual acuity, conjunctival congestion and pain. Data was collected at 1, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days post operation. Participants’ satisfaction was also determined at 56 days post operation using the likert 5 point scale. The mean values for the variables were compared statistical significance. Data was entered and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 19.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA)
