Background This study compares the effectiveness of subtenon’s anaesthesia with peribulbar anaesthesia in cataract surgery with a view to determine which of the two methods have a better analgesic and akinetic property. Materials and Methods A single-masked randomized controlled clinical study involving one hundred eligible patients that were randomized into subtenon (n=50) and peribulbar (n=50) groups. Globe and lid akinesia, analgesia, intraocular pressure, chemosis, subconjunctival haemorrhage and patient satisfaction were assessed and compared between the groups. IBM SPSS version 19 was used for the analysis.
