Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common form of chronic motor disability in childhood. For decades, comprehensive and effective physical rehabilitation has been the main interventions used in reduction of spasticity and improvement in motor function. Many researchers have compared the effect of continuous and intermittent physiotherapy which yielded controversial outcomes. Furthermore, there is paucity of data concerning the baseline spasticity and gross motor function of children with cerebral palsy and also the effect of the two modalities of physiotherapy. The main objective of this study was to do a comparative assessment of motor function in children with spastic cerebral palsy subjected to two different modalities of physiotherapy. Specific objectives were to determine the baseline grade of spasticity and motor function using Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) and Gross Motor Function Measure-88 (GMFM-88) respectively and also to conduct a comparative assessment of motor function using MAS and GMFM-88 between those patients who received continuous physiotherapy and those subjected to intermittent physiotherapy.
