Colorectal carcinoma account for about 3.9% of all malignant lesions in human beings with several studies identifying it as the most common gastrointestinal malignancy. It was previously considered to be commoner in developed nations of the world but recent studies have reported increasing trends in developing nations. Aims and Objectives This ten year retrospective review was done to classify the histological variants, determine the sex and age distribution and offer a database for studies in the future. Materials and Methods The study was done on all cases of colorectal carcinomas diagnosed between January 2001 and December 2010 in the Department of Histopathology of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano. The laboratory request forms and the duplicate copies of histological reports were retrieved for extraction of relevant clinical information like age, sex, anatomic sites of lesions and clinical presentations. Histological diagnoses, grading as well as Astler-Coller staging were also extracted. Corresponding Haematoxylin and Eosin stained slides were reviewed and evaluated. Special stains and immunohistochemical studies were carried out where required. The lesions were classified according to WHO histological variants and tables and figures were used to illustrate the results.
