Sickle cell anaemia (SCA) is prevalent in Nigeria and affected children are predisposed to several complications. Among these are morbidities involving the cardiovascular and renal systemswhich ordinarily should predispose them to hypertension. Fortuitously however, hypotension rather than hypertension was commonly reported in children with SCA. In recent past however, rising incidence of hypertension among such patients is being noted, especially when ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is done. There are therefore conflicting reports on the blood pressure profile of children with SCA. The study was undertaken to determine the blood pressure (BP) profile of children with SCA and its determinants.
