Background: Anaemia in pregnancy, with an estimated prevalence of 46.3% (iron deficiency anaemia- commonest) in Africa, is a global public health challenge. It is the commonest medical disorder of pregnancy and a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in most developing countries. Hookworm infestation causes anaemia, especially iron deficiency anaemia. Aim: To assess the prevalence of anaemia, iron-deficiency anaemia and its association with hookworm infestation among pregnant women at booking at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 383pregnant women at the booking antenatal clinic Lagos State University Teaching Hospital over three-month period. Packed cell volume (PCV) and peripheral blood film appearance to detect types of anaemia and stool microscopy to detect hookworm infestation in each pregnant woman were performed. Packed cell volume of <33% was considered anaemia. Information was obtained on socio-demographic data, obstetrics and medical history. Data obtained using interviewer-administered questionnaires was analyzed with SPSS Package version 23.0.
