Background: To reduce the rate of loss to follow up during cervical cancer screening in developing countries, it has been proposed that screen and treat approach should be adopted using VIA in these countries without waiting for histological confirmation Objectives: The cross-sectional analytical study aimed to determine the proportion of women who tested positive when cervical cancer screening done with Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and to determine the degree of over-treatment of women who tested positive with VIA when treated with immediate cryotherapy at the same clinic visit. Methodology: In this study 95 participants were screened for cervical premalignant lesions using VIA. Cervical biopsies were taken from 26 positive participants who tested positive after which cryotherapy was done for 23 of 26 positive participants using carbon dioxide utilizing double freeze technique.
