Streptococcus pneumoniae is a pathogen that is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five years of age. It is responsible for invasive pneumococcal diseases such as pneumonia bacteraemia and meningitis. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have been developed to reduce the burden of invasive pneumococcal diseases. A study to determine antibody response to the vaccine is required as a means of assessing the efficacy of the vaccine.
