Background Proteinuria is a major component of preeclampsia. Protein estimation using 24-hour urine protein has been the gold standard, however this method is cumbersome and time consuming, thus the need for alternative method which is rapid with high validity to identify significant proteinuria. Aim The aim of the study is to compare the validity of urine dipstick analysis and spot urine protein creatinine ratio to 24-hour urine protein among preeclamptic pregnant woman Study Design Cross-sectional study. Method The study population will include 100 preeclampsia patients. Urine will be collected over 24- hours, the urine volume and total protein in the 24-hour urine samples will be evaluated. Urine dipstick test and spot UPCR in urine samples will be compared to 24-hour urine protein. The test of validity will be done using sensitivity, specificity, false positive and false negative rate. Also the positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy will be assessed using SPSS 20 statistical package. Key Words urine dipstick, preeclampsia, spot urine protein creatinine ratio, 24-hours urine protein.
